Day 1: Hanoi to Mai Chau Valley ( L, D )

Distance/Time: ~170 km | 4.5 hours

The Route: 8:30 AM - Leave Hanoi via National Road 6, climbing through the steep Doc Cun Pass.

Highlights: Panoramic views at Thung Khe Pass; descending into the lush green valley of Mai Chau.

Evening: Sleep in a traditional stilt house with the White Thai ethnic minority; enjoy home-cooked food and local rice wine.

Day 2: Mai Chau to Tan Ky ( B, L, D )

Distance/Time: ~290 km | 7 hours

The Route: Connect directly onto the early segments of the official Ho Chi Minh Trail, tracking along the peaceful Ma River.

Highlights: Rugged karst hills, vast sugarcane fields, and a stop at the historical Mile Zero monument in Tan Ky (the trail's wartime origin marker).

Evening: Overnight at a standard local guesthouse in Tan Ky town. 

Day 3: Tan Ky to Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park (B, L, D )

Distance/Time: ~280 km | 6.5 hours

The Route: Smooth, flowing tarmac deeper into the Truong Son mountain range with minimal traffic.

Day 5: Khe Sanh to Hue (Via DMZ & Vinh Moc Tunnels) (B , L )

The Route: Descend east toward the historic Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and ride down the coast.

Highlights: Walking through the underground city of the Vinh Moc Tunnels, crossing Hien Luong Bridge (17th Parallel), and riding along Cua Viet Beach.

Evening: Arrive in the Imperial City of Hue ( try spicy Bun Bo Hue noodle soup by your own dinner )

Day 6: Hue to Hoi An (Via the Hai Van Pass) ( B, L )

The Route: The iconic coastal run made world-famous by Top Gear.
