This 4-day loop takes you through the heart of Northwest Vietnam's most dramatic landscapes, from the UNESCO-worthy terraced rice fields of Hoang Su Phi
to the tranquil waters of Thac Ba Lake. This route is a favorite for Easy Riders seeking a mix of cultural depth and challenging mountain passes.
Day 1: Hanoi – Hoang Su Phi,(approx. 280km)( L, D )
7:00 pick up from your hotel and start ride: A long but rewarding day. Leave Hanoi early to clear the city traffic and heading north via National Highway 2 toward Tuyen Quang . The last 60km toward Hoang Su Phi features steep climbs and winding roads. The Experience: Arrive in the Thong Nguyen area. These are the premier spots for witnessing some of Vietnam's most spectacular and steep rice terraces. Stay: Over-night in an ethnic minority homestay (Dzao or Tay) to experience local "happy water" (rice wine).
Day 2: Hoang Su Phi,– Xin Man,– Bac Ha,(approx. 100km) ( B, L, D )
The Ride: One of the most rugged "Easy Rider" stretches. The road between Hoang Su Phi and Xin Man is carved into cliff faces and follows the Chay River. The Experience: Crossing into Lao Cai province, you'll reach Bac Ha famous for the Flower H'mong people. If your Day 2 falls on a Sunday, the Bac Ha Market is a must-visit for its vibrant colors and local livestock trading Stay: Overnight in Bac Ha town or a nearby H'mong village.
Day 3: Bac Ha – Vu Linh (Thac Ba Lake,) (approx. 175km) ( B , L, D )
The Ride: Descend from the high mountains toward the quieter, rolling hills of Yen Bai province. The Experience: Arrive at Vu Linh village situated on the banks of Thac Ba Lake, one of Vietnam's largest man-made lakes with over 1,300 islands. Spend the afternoon on a traditional boat trip or swimming in the clear blue waters. Stay: Overnight at a Dzao homestay in Vu Linh village, known for their legendary hospitality and lakeside dinners.
Day 4: Vu Linh,– Hanoi (approx. 170km)( B, L )
The Ride: A more relaxed final leg following the Red River dyke roads back toward the capital. The Experience: Pass through the "tea hills" of Tuyen Quang and Phu Tho, provinces. Stop for a local lunch in Viet Tri before navigating the final stretch into Hanoi by late afternoon.
